What is yoga?

Yoga is the process of stilling the mind. In classes, we use the breath to guide us through a system of mindful movements and postures designed to facilitate stillness of mind and improve our physical and mental functioning. No matter what your current level of activity, practicing regularly will increase your overall fitness including your flexibility, stamina, strength, balance and muscle tone. It will also improve your cardiovascular health and enhance the quality of your sleep.

But much more than that, yoga brings about an overall feeling of wellbeing that lasts long after the class has finished. With its focus on breathing deeply and being present in the moment, it decreases stress, fatigue, anxiety and depression.

What can a teacher do for me?

A good yoga teacher acts as a guide to help you find what feels good to you. There is no competition or comparison in yoga. I encourage you to work at your own pace and listen to your body. I’ll suggest options and modifications throughout and it is totally your choice which options you take. We will always focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t. This is your time and your practice.

How can you practice with me?

Group classes in Narborough, Leicestershire.

Mondays 6.35pm to 7.50pm and 8pm-9.15pm.

All classes are at Narborough Parish Centre, Desford Road, Narborough, Leicestershire, LE19 2EL Class costs are £8.50 for a single class or you can buy a Six Class Pass for £42 (equivalent to £7 per session, can be used anytime). You can pay by cash or card at the class

What happens in a class?

We start each session with a few moments relaxation and deep breathing then some gentle stretches. Next, we get our bodies warmed up with flowing movements. Then some standing poses for strengthening, before settling into deeper stretches. We finish with another few moments of relaxation and you will leave feeling energised, refreshed and relaxed.

What should I bring?

Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing. Ordinary sportswear or leggings/shorts and a t-shirt are fine. We practice yoga barefoot so you don’t need any special footwear.  I suggest you bring a bottle of water so you can stay hydrated. If you have a mat then you’re welcome to bring your own, if not, I do sell them at £12 each (usual retail £22). They are plain grey and good quality. For your first class, if you’re not sure whether you want to buy your own mat yet, I can lend you one. I clean these thoroughly after use and then store them separately to ensure they aren’t used again for at least 3 days.

Where are classes held?

All my classes are at Narborough Parish Centre, Desford road, Narborough, LE19 2EL.

The Parish Centre is brand new and purpose built for the local community. Light, airy, clean and spacious, its a perfect venue for a serene and relaxing yoga practice.

Where can I park?

For evening classes there is parking at Weavers Court Car Park next to the Parish Centre, free after 6pm.

What do my students say?

“On my first class with Sophie I was so nervous and out of my comfort zone but Sophie made me feel really comfortable. When I found parts tricky she made me feel at ease and showed me simple ways to adapt any positions. During the class, she explains about the postures and what part of the body/function that supports which is fascinating and motivating. I really enjoy every part of Sophie’s yoga class but especially at the end when we allow both body and mind to relax. Sophie’s passion for yoga shines through”

“I really enjoy Sophie’s teaching! The classes are informative & taught at a pace that I can work with comfortably. I like how Sophie adapts the poses to accommodate my weaker points.”

“Sophie has a calm sensitivity that makes everyone feel included and not afraid to try something new. Sophie’s classes have improved my shoulder issue and I sleep more soundly after her session”
